Questions
How long do I boil an egg?
For large eggs lowered into gently boiling water: about 6 minutes for runny yolks, 7 for jammy, 9 for medium and 11–12 for fully hard-boiled. Move them to ice water when the timer rings.
Do I start the timer when the water boils?
These times are for eggs lowered into water that is already boiling. If you start eggs in cold water, start the timer when the water reaches a boil and take a minute or two off.
What about small or extra-large eggs?
Take about a minute off for medium eggs and add about a minute for extra-large or jumbo eggs. Eggs straight from the fridge may need 30 seconds more.
